a veggie evening at OXO

As you know by this point, London is one of my favourite cities in the world ( closely followed by Brighton, Madrid and New York ) . As a travel addict with a lame af love for organisation, I’m always looking for the best ways to make planning trips a little easier. Whether it’s figuring out public transport or finding the most Instagrammable restaurant in the area, you can bet I’ve created a spreadsheet of possibilities. When it comes to the food side of things, though, my go-to is Bookatable. So when they reached out to ask if I’d like to choose somewhere in London to review on my blog ( and bring Dan along with me! ) , you can bet I was pretty darn excited. Bookatable carefully curates the city’s most stunning restaurants for you - no spreadsheet needed - so it wasn’t too difficult to pick somewhere for a super special evening.

After weighing up the veggie and vegan options across the board, we decided on The OXO Tower Bar, Restaurant and Brasserie. As part of Bookatable’s Feast On London campaign, OXO are offering three courses and a cocktail for £33 per person until the end of this month - not bad when many a cocktail in their bar costs around half of that alone! The Feast On London eateries are curated according to their features, so whether you’re looking for views of London, Michelin starred meals, historically iconic restaurants or otherwise, it won’t take long to find one you love! We knew we wanted somewhere with views, so when we saw OXO’s veggie menu we knew it was the one for us!

Set on London’s Southbank - one of my favourite areas in the city - it’s the perfect place to head to before an evening stroll along the river during sunset. Yes, I am encouraging you to live your life like an 80s romcom.

We booked a fairly early dinner but, in the words of Mrs Kasha Davis, there’s always time for a cocktail. Our evening kicked off with drinks on the terrace and an attempt to play it cool when the views of London are absolutely jaw-dropping. There are two cocktails to choose from on the Feast On London set menu - I went for the Cocchi Rosa Spritz and Dan chose the Pineapple Punch. Both tasted like summer! After around half an hour we were shown to our table, which overlooked the sunset over the city. It was seriously surreal.

Now for the part you’ve been waiting for … the food! Let’s get to it.

starter

Whipped goat’s cheese, marinated artichokes, balsamic-roasted beetroot, heritage tomatoes and piano bread

main

Bucatini pasta, hazelnut and wild garlic pistou, torn burrata and wilted spinach

dessert

Chocolate tart and cocoa nib cream

Banana cake, vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce

oh, and there was some live jazz music too ( one of my favourites genres ) !

SO how was it? Well, where do I start? Let’s just say I wish I was heading back again today ( I’m writing this the day after ) !

The salad starter tasted like a fresh spring garden, and the goat’s cheese is the best I’ve ever tasted. I really loved the addition of the parsnip crisps and piano bread for a bit of variation in texture, too - this is something I’ll definitely be trying in my own salads at home.

Our main was so creamy and warming, which was much needed - despite the sunshine we are still in the uk, so it was a little bit chilly! The combination of the lemon zest and spinach was really delicious - it gave the sauce a bit of a kick - and the fact that the pasta style was a little bit thicker than your standard spaghetti meant it was certainly filling. The crunch of the hazelnuts amongst the otherwise silky smooth sauce was also something I wouldn’t have thought to add but absolutely loved - I’ll be throwing some into my next pasta dishes, toO!

I chose the chocolate cake and cocoa nib cream dessert which was light, sweet and refreshing. It tasted super fresh and was just the right portion size. Dan says the banana cake was delicious, so I can confirm it’s tens, tens, tens across the board.

If you’re looking for somewhere that’ll provide seriously tasty, veggie-friendly food, views that’ll make you fall in love with London even more, and an iconic space that’ll never go out of style, I think you’ll love the OXO tower as much as I do!

Thank you so much to Bookatable for a simply wonderful evening - I had such an incredible time and the opportunity to bring Dan with me made it even more special.
